"Diamondback El Oso Fat Bike - 2016. In the past couple of years, mountain bikes have gone fat. Really fat. Like, 4+ wide tire fat. Never one to let some skinny tires stand in the way of adventure, Diamondback has debuted the El Oso fat bike. For those of you who don't speak Spanish, El Oso means The Bear, and this particular bike more than lives up to its name. It starts with a custom butted 6061-T6 alloy frame with a formed downtube and 1.5 tapered headtube for stiffness while also keep the weight down. The frame is also built with massive clearances that can accommodate up to a 26x5 tire. Yes, you read that correctly. To add some stability and rigidity to things, the rear uses a 197mm thru axle. Up front, a RockShox Blut 120mm suspension fork with a tapered steerer tube and a 150x15mm thru axle gives you plenty of clearance and stiffness to get up and over just about anything. Shifting is handled by a Shimano Deore/SLX groupset with a high direct mount front derailleur and a set of RaceFace Ride cranks boasting a 36/26T chainring set, mated with a 11-36T 10-speed cassette in the rear. The job of slowing your roll is left to a set of Shimano M447 hydraulic disc brakes, which offer excellent power and modulation. Now let's get to what you've really been waiting for: rolling stock. The El Oso trundles along on a set of DB 95Wide rims laced to 32h hubs with cartridge sealed bearings, all wrapped up in a set of Kenda Juggeranut 26x4.5 tires. That's some serious rubber that will let you roll through--or over--just about anything in your path."
